These are my interests and passions, there are many like them but these are mine. Many of them overlap, intersect and interact with eachother.
Games
I have been playing and watching older family members play computer games for as long as I remember. Board games came later on as well and even played a weird one-shot TTRPG online once many many years ago. I play RPGs, MMORPGs, strategy games, roguelikes (both traditional and “modern” ones), and the rare survival game here and there. Games have been such a big part of my life that I ended up working in the games industry as well.
Literature
Literature is another big part of my life. I love to read, and I tend to reach for a sci-fi, fantasy or horror. Poetry is great too. On occasion, I used to write as well, a hobby I am thinking about returning to.
Software
One of my great passions, all things software. This has mostly manifested through my internet related shenanigans and games. As soon as I really learned how to program, I started writing tools to make my life easier.
Open Source and Ownership
Much like most of my peers, I grew up using Windows, but I took a big interest in Linux as soon as I found out about it and eventually ended up daily driving it. Through that I developed a passion for open source, and for owning my devices. It’s a driving force behind much of what I do or aspire to do.
Hardware
I don’t just tinker on my computer from the software side of things. I do like building PCs, and I don’t build nearly enough small hardware projects as I want to. Hopefully something that I can change soon enough :)
The Internet
While I remember dial-up, the gates of the internet only truly opened to me when we got broadband when I was about 12. That is also when I started setting up my first websites, a personal website, a few fan sites for games I played. Since then I have practically lived online and I have fond memories of forums, message boards, IRC chats and other small internet things that predate social media as we know it today. I still yearn for those days, and this website and some of my online activity is an effort to maintain the small internet.
Music
Despite attempts, I am not much of a musical instrument player, and I am a terrible singer. I do love music though and will listen to almost anything (really, check out my last.fm), though my first love and the genre I always return to is always going to be the various subgenres of metal. I don’t particularly enjoy crowds of people, but I do make an occasional exception for a concert every few years.
Gardening
I don’t really do much of it, since have pretty much always lived in an apartment but I do enjoy tending to plants, and I take great joy in growing “useful” plants. Few things are better than eating the food you’ve grown yourself.
