TL;DR: I do not use generative AI.

I have many objections to it. I prefer doing things on my own and even if they may suck a little (or a lot), at least I made them, with my own hands and my own brain. That’s the whole point anyway.

The term “AI” is extremely overloaded, which is undoubtedly a part of the grift these days. That’s why I at least specify generative AI as a category, I do not throw computer vision, machine learning at large, behavioural trees in games, procedural generation, and other things one could label “AI”, into the same bucket. I am talking particularly about LLMs and its ilk.

I strongly believe that generative AI has no place in the creative process, or in the everyday life and I tend to avoid it wherever I can.

Unfortunately, avoidance is complicated. Unless I unplug my computer and go herd sheep (an ever more attractive thought), I can’t avoid it entirely. I can point it out, object to it, try to find alternatives, but unfortunately so many tools and programs I use nowadays, down to the operating system itself, have some AI-assisted code in them.

I wish it wasn’t that way, it’s conflicting and uncomfortable but all I can really do is not use it myself and keep being loud in my objections against it. There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism after-all. Even ethical creation in this day and age, at least in the fields of my interests, is becoming next to impossible.
